Uighur Girl with Donkeys, hanging scroll, ink and colors on paper. Signature by the artist: “In the autumn of the yimao year (1975) painted by Huang Zhou.” One seal of the artist: “Huang Zhou zhi yin.”
According to the owners, from a private collection in Hesse, collected between 1970 and 2015
Huang Zhou was from Lixian in Hebei province. He studied painting under Zhao Wangyun (1906-1977) who especially taught the sketching after nature. After 1949 he travelled in the northwestern provinces of China and spezialized in painting the life of the National Minorities there, especially the Uighurs. Donkeys with Uighur girls became his most favored subject. In the 1970s these paintings were a favorite present donated to foreign guests
